Biological treatment

Biological treatment enables to pump out the treated sewage to a natural environment (rivers, ditches, soil). This technology is mostly used after chemical and mechanical pretreatment. In some of the cases, the biological treatment is the second step of sewage pretreatment, essential to achieve mandatory parameter requirements before it can be pumped out into the sewage system.

Activated sludge technology in the flow-through systems or sequencing batch reactors (SBR) is a perfect solution in treating various types of industrial sewage.

Choosing the right method of treatment is dependent on the type of industry, as well as from the daily amount of produced sewage.

We apply biological sewage treatment in the following systems:

  • Partial SBR
  • Flow-through
  • Membrane MBR
  • MBBR

Sewage treatment in partial system SBR

The system consists of one or many aeration vessels, where each step of biological treatment takes place.
Draining of sewage to the receiver takes place repeatedly throughout the day, which in several cases can result in limitation of the method.

Sewage treatment in a flow-through system

Traditional, tested treatment system based on activated, suspended sludge in the tank of adequate size.

They are mostly concrete tanks, partially or completely are submerged in the ground. In the next chambers of the tank the treatment process proceeds. The excess sludge that results as a product of the process, is later dewatered.

The system is characterized by its high stability of the quality of the treated sewage and its ease of use.

Sewage treatment in the MBR system

MBR system is a modification of the flow-through biological treatment system. Instead of a traditional secondary sedimentation tank, it is replaced by a filter that parts activated sludge from treated sewage.

The system allows the increasing performance of the treatment plant without the necessary expansion of aeration vessels.

Sewage treatment in the MBBR system

It is another version of the biological treatment system. In the place of classic activated, suspended sludge, there are plastic fittings, on which activated sludge membrane is formed.

The system is resistant to a changing load of biological treatment and less sensitive to changes in temperatures compared to classic systems.

In the existing treatment plants, it enables increased performance by filling the aeration vessel into plastic fittings.
